Basic information about MSD Slovakia in English

MSD Slovakia is an organisation that is an integral part of ECOSY and IUSY and which actively cooperates with national and international organisations from all around the world. We have therefore decided to offer some basic information about us also in English.

Young Social Democrats (MSD) is the organization of social-democratic youth in Slovakia. Our aim is to spread the ideas of democracy, liberty, equality, solidarity, and ecology as well as we want to join together young people in Slovakia who trust in these values.

The organization was established at the Foundation Congress, which took place on March 1st 2003. Young Social Democrats grew out of the two former leftwing organizations: Young Democratic Left (MDĽ) and Social Democratic Youth of Slovakia (SDMS), so the new organization is being built upon their traditions and continuing their activities, e.g. seminars, campaigns (for free education at universities, for legalization of homosexual people's partnership, etc.), demonstrations, etc. We are the member of the international socialist youth organizations IUSY and ECOSY.

The most important issues of our policy:

Working to strengthen and expand solidarity and equality in Slovakia. For us equality is not complete without equality of opportunities, which we perceive as the fundamental condition for preserving civil liberties in our society.
Fighting against all forms of discrimination, such as racial, religious, social or sexual discrimination.
Promoting global solidarity in the world. In our point of view, it is indispensable to adjust global economy that it not deepen social inequality in the world.
Pointing up the importance of ecology and environmental issues
Fighting for the world peace and stability.
Helping in the process of the European Union enlargement using the cooperation with our European partners, especially ECOSY
Development of information technologies and the Internet in Slovakia.
